Intraoperative cholangiography catheter
A thin (4-5 French), semi-rigid, radiopaque end-hole catheter, introduced into the cystic duct after a partial cysticotomy and secured with a surgical clip, through which contrast is injected.
How it is used
Performed routinely or selectively during cholecystectomy (open or laparoscopic) to define biliary anatomy and detect common bile duct stones before proceeding.
Clinical tip
It is introduced with a dedicated grasper (Olsen clamp) that lets it slide through while also occluding the cystic duct around it to prevent bile or contrast leakage.
