Adjustable gastric band
A silicone band placed around the proximal stomach, connected via tubing to a subcutaneous injection port that allows adjusting its restriction with saline.
How it is used
A restrictive bariatric technique from the 2000s, today mostly relevant for revision or removal surgery rather than primary placement.
Clinical tip
A Spanish series (Hospital Gregorio Marañón / Clínica Fuensanta, 132 patients) reported 0% mortality but a 6.06% revision-surgery rate; current Spanish sources describe it as a technique that often ends up requiring removal in the long term.
