Endoscopy camera control unit (CCU) and light source
A console that processes the signal from the camera attached to the endoscope and converts it into video, combined or stacked with a light source (roughly 300W xenon or LED) that transmits light through a fiber-optic cable to the endoscope; distinct from the already-catalogued laparoscope (the optic itself).
How it is used
Allows real-time visualization of the explored cavity during any endoscopic or laparoscopic procedure.
Clinical tip
The distal end of the light cable gets considerably hot; it should never be left resting on surgical drapes, a recognized burn/fire risk.
