Scalpel (handle + blade)

Cutting instrument made of a handle and a disposable blade. Handle no. 3 fits blades 10 to 15 (there is no no. 14 blade); handle no. 4 fits larger blades, 18 to 24.

How it is used

Opening skin and soft tissue. Handed to the surgeon with the blade facing down, never directly into the hand.

Clinical tip

Blade no. 10 is the most used for large incisions; no. 15 for small, precise incisions.
