Busch umbilical cord scissors

Curved, blunt-tipped scissors, often with one serrated blade, designed specifically for cutting the umbilical cord.

How it is used

Cuts the umbilical cord right after delivery, once it is already occluded with a cord clamp (or between two clamps); the curved, blunt tip reduces the risk of injuring the newborn's skin.

Clinical tip

Not to be confused with the already-catalogued umbilical cord clamp: the clamp occludes the vessels, while these scissors are the instrument that makes the cut, always on the placental side of the clamp.
