Poliglecaprone 25 suture (Monocryl)

Synthetic absorbable monofilament suture made of a copolymer of glycolide and epsilon-caprolactone (poliglecaprone 25), notably pliable for a monofilament material.

How it is used

Widely used for subcuticular skin closure and approximation of superficial soft tissue, where a good cosmetic result and relatively fast absorption are desired.

Clinical tip

It loses most of its tensile strength within a few weeks and is fully absorbed within about three to four months; being a smooth monofilament, it requires extra throws to secure a knot reliably.
