Olsen-Hegar needle holder
A Mayo-Hegar-type needle holder with a scissor blade built into the jaw near the hinge.
How it is used
Holds the suture needle to place stitches and, by slightly opening and closing the jaws against the built-in blade, cuts the suture without switching to a separate pair of scissors; useful for fast skin closure with multiple interrupted stitches.
Clinical tip
Care must be taken not to accidentally cut the suture during normal needle-holding maneuvers: the blade only cuts with a specific opening motion, unlike the already-catalogued Mayo-Hegar, which never cuts.
