Mathieu needle holder
Needle holder with flat, spring-type handles, opened and closed by squeezing the palm against the handles rather than using finger rings; includes a ratchet that locks the jaws closed.
How it is used
One-handed suturing: lets the surgeon hold and manipulate the needle by squeezing and releasing the handle with the palm, leaving the other hand free to hold forceps or tissue; widely used in general surgery, urology, and veterinary practice.
Clinical tip
Opening it requires squeezing slightly past the ratchet catch point, a different motion from ring-handled needle holders such as the already-catalogued Mayo-Hegar.
