Wertheim parametrium clamp
Long, curved clamp with crossing, heavily serrated jaws, designed to clamp the parametrium and uterine vascular pedicle during radical hysterectomy.
How it is used
Used to sequentially clamp the parametrium and uterine vessels before division and ligation during radical hysterectomy (Wertheim-Meigs) with pelvic lymphadenectomy for cervical cancer; distinct from the already-catalogued DeBakey- or Satinsky-type vascular clamps, which occlude isolated vessels rather than large tissue pedicles.
Clinical tip
The clamp tip should be kept close to the cervix/uterus and away from the lateral pelvic wall to minimize the risk of ureteral injury, since the ureter runs very close to the parametrium.
