Cervical biopsy forceps (Tischler)
A long, plier-like forceps with two concave, interlocking jaws, one of which has a sharp cutting edge.
How it is used
During colposcopy, it is closed onto a suspicious area of the cervix to cut and remove a small tissue sample (directed biopsy) for pathological examination.
Clinical tip
Applying Monsel's solution or silver nitrate to the biopsy site is usually enough to control the minor bleeding that follows sampling.
