Uterine manipulator

A rigid rod inserted through the cervix into the endometrial cavity, often combined with a vaginal cup (colpotomizer) that surrounds the cervix and delineates the vaginal fornices.

How it is used

It lets the surgical team mobilize, elevate, and angle the uterus from below while operating laparoscopically or robotically from above, and helps mark the colpotomy plane during laparoscopic or robotic hysterectomy.

Clinical tip

Overinflating the intrauterine fixation balloon should be avoided, since cases of uterine perforation or rupture from overinflation have been reported.
