Penrose drain
Soft, flat, flexible rubber tube, open at both ends, with no suction system.
How it is used
Passive drainage of fluid or pus from a wound or cavity by capillary action and gravity, preventing its build-up under the skin.
Clinical tip
It is often secured with a safety pin or a skin stitch so it does not slip back inside the wound.
