Emergency ring cutter
A plier-type instrument with a small notched wheel or blade and a flat guide that slides under the ring to shield the finger, so the wheel cuts only the ring's metal.
How it is used
Urgent removal of a ring trapped on a swollen or injured finger (trauma, insect sting, pregnancy, allergic reaction) when it cannot be slid off; once cut through, the ring is pried open with the same tool or pliers and removed without injuring the finger.
Clinical tip
Works well on gold or silver but cuts poorly through hard metals like titanium, tungsten or thick stainless steel; tungsten or ceramic rings usually need to be cracked with locking pliers instead of sawed through.
