Optical urethrotome (Sachse urethrotome)
A rigid sheath with a built-in optical telescope and a retractable cold knife that can be advanced under direct vision.
How it is used
Incises a urethral stricture under direct vision (direct-vision internal urethrotomy, DVIU), classically with a single cut at the 12 o'clock position through the scar tissue.
Clinical tip
Recurrence is common, especially with long or already-recurrent strictures; urethroplasty is generally preferred over repeat urethrotomy in that situation.
