Vascular tunneler
A long, rigid instrument with a blunt or olive tip and a connector at the other end, designed to create a subcutaneous or subfascial tunnel.
How it is used
Used in peripheral bypass surgery to create the anatomical tunnel through which the vascular graft, prosthetic or venous, will be passed between the proximal and distal incisions.
Clinical tip
It should always be kept within a known anatomical plane (subfascial or subcutaneous) to avoid injuring adjacent neurovascular structures.
