Saphenous vein stripper
A long, flexible instrument with an olive-shaped head or acorn tip, designed to be threaded through the lumen of the saphenous vein and extract it by traction.
How it is used
Used in classic saphenous vein stripping for varicose vein surgery, removing the entire incompetent saphenous trunk through a small incision.
Clinical tip
Thermal and chemical endovenous techniques have progressively replaced classic stripping in many centers due to lower morbidity.
