Tiemann catheter
A single-use urinary catheter with a narrow, tapered, gently curved ("coudé") tip, often with just 1-2 drainage eyes, made of red rubber or silicone/PVC.
How it is used
Intermittent or indwelling male urethral catheterization when a straight-tip catheter (Nelaton/standard Foley) can't negotiate an anatomical obstacle — an enlarged prostate, urethral stricture, or false passage — since the curved tip helps steer through the prostatic curve.
Clinical tip
Usually available from 8 to 26 Fr; size is chosen based on urethral caliber and the reason for catheterization, never by default.
