Takahashi forceps
A straight-shafted forceps (without a bayonet bend) with small, oval, cupped jaws and a ring handle; available in a cutting version and in a version with a built-in suction channel.
How it is used
Used in functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) to grasp and cut polyps, pathologic mucosa, cartilage, and small bone fragments under direct endoscopic view, particularly for structures accessible in a straight line (middle meatus, anterior ethmoid).
Clinical tip
Unlike the already-catalogued Blakesley-Weil forceps, which has a bayonet-angled shaft to reach deeper sinus cells, the Takahashi has a straight shaft, ideal when working in a direct line with the endoscope.
