Gunnar Hey roller forceps
Non-toothed, ring-handled forceps with a small rotating roller on each jaw tip, instead of grasping blades.
How it is used
Rolled along the outside of a chest tube (or other drain) to "milk" and break up clots or debris obstructing its lumen and keep it patent, as a more controlled alternative to pinching and stripping the tube directly between the fingers.
Clinical tip
Avoid excessive force: overly aggressive milking of the tube generates very negative intrathoracic pressures that can injure adjacent lung or pleural tissue.
