Emergency cricothyrotomy kit
Equipment for surgical or percutaneous (Seldinger technique) access to the airway through the cricothyroid membrane, as a pre-assembled kit (e.g. Surgicric) or a classic set (scalpel + bougie + tube).
How it is used
Last resort in the difficult airway algorithm when mask ventilation and intubation both fail ("can't intubate, can't ventilate").
Clinical tip
A workshop using a porcine model (Hospital Universitari Joan XXIII, Tarragona) reduced the median time from 163s on the first attempt to 70s on the sixth, after training.
