Freer elevator (ENT)
A double-ended instrument with a flat, blunt tip at one end and a sharper tip at the other, used to elevate mucoperiosteum and mucoperichondrium.
How it is used
Used in septoplasty and other nasal surgeries to separate the mucosa from the underlying cartilage or bone without perforating it.
Clinical tip
The dissection plane should always be kept just above the perichondrium to minimize the risk of bilateral septal perforations.
