Corpora cavernosa dilators
Set of progressively larger metal rods, straight (Hegar) or curved-tip (Brooks), that gradually dilate the corpora cavernosa.
How it is used
Used before penile prosthesis implantation to create the space needed for the cylinders inside each corpus cavernosum.
Clinical tip
In the penoscrotal approach, the flat, straight shape of Hegar dilators can hinder distal dilation toward the glans, which is why curved-tip Brooks dilators are often preferred for that step.
