Shave biopsy blade
A flexible, double-edged, very thin blade without a rigid handle, bent between the operator's fingers to conform to the curve of the skin.
How it is used
Used to perform shave biopsies of raised skin lesions, taking a thin horizontal slice of the superficial skin layer for histologic examination.
Clinical tip
Bowing the blade into a U-shape gives better control of cutting depth, yielding a uniform sample without penetrating the deep dermis.
