Open-tip diagnostic ureteral catheter
Thin (4-6 Fr), flexible catheter with an open or olive tip, passed through the cystoscope's working channel into the ureteral orifice.
How it is used
Retrograde pyelography (instilling contrast to opacify the upper urinary tract) and selective urine sampling; distinct from the indwelling double-J stent and the ureteral access sheath already catalogued.
Clinical tip
It must never be advanced with force, to avoid injuring the ureteral mucosa.
