Percutaneous nephrostomy catheter
A flexible catheter with a pigtail-curled tip, placed through the skin and renal parenchyma into the collecting system and connected to an external drainage bag.
How it is used
Diverts urine from an obstructed or infected kidney (stones, tumour, stricture) when retrograde drainage is not possible, and provides percutaneous access for later endourologic procedures.
