Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) catheter
Catheter with a laser fiber (diode, typically 980nm or other wavelengths) introduced by ultrasound-guided puncture into the insufficient saphenous vein, applying thermal energy to collapse and seal its wall.
How it is used
Minimally invasive outpatient treatment of great/small/accessory saphenous reflux, as an alternative to stripping.
Clinical tip
Gives results equivalent or superior to classic stripping with better postoperative quality-of-life scores, performed under local tumescent anesthesia with ultrasound guidance.
