Urine drainage bag
A graduated PVC or EVA urine collection bag with an anti-reflux valve and a drain tap at the base, connected by tubing to a urinary catheter to form a closed circuit.
How it is used
Passive gravity collection of urine from an indwelling urinary catheter, for measured urine-output and fluid-balance monitoring; higher-capacity versions (3-4 liters) are used on the ward/ICU, and leg-bag versions (750 mL) for ambulatory patients.
Clinical tip
The bag must always stay below bladder level to prevent retrograde urine reflux, a known risk factor for catheter-associated urinary tract infection.
