Trabectome
A single-use handpiece combining a high-frequency bipolar electrode, irrigation, and aspiration, with an angled protective footplate for insertion into Schlemm's canal.
How it is used
Inserted through a small corneal incision to ablate a strip of trabecular meshwork under direct gonioscopic visualization, lowering intraocular pressure in open-angle minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).
Clinical tip
Unlike conventional trabeculectomy or drainage devices such as the Ahmed valve, it creates no filtering bleb and implants no external material: it only ablates native trabecular tissue from within the anterior chamber.
