Plastibell circumcision device

Single-use clear plastic ring with a circumferential groove and a bell-shaped handle; placed between the foreskin and glans, ligated with non-absorbable suture over the groove, and the excess foreskin resected; the ring sloughs off on its own after about 5-10 days. Distinct from the already-catalogued Gomco clamp (no crush/hemostasis by clamp, instead ligature plus a retained ring).

How it is used

Neonatal/infant circumcision, as an alternative to conventional dissection technique or the Gomco clamp.

Clinical tip

Published series reported slippage and bleeding with the factory-supplied cord ligature, leading to a modified knotting technique to reduce the risk.
