Iris hooks (iris retractors)
Thin hooks (usually 4, in a square or diamond configuration) that engage the pupillary margin through paracentesis incisions to retract and maintain dilation of a small or rigid pupil.
How it is used
Phacoemulsification with a small pupil (pseudoexfoliation, intraoperative floppy iris syndrome, synechiae), as an alternative to Malyugin-type expansion rings.
Clinical tip
Dilation with hooks should be limited to what is necessary (~5 mm), as they can damage the pupillary margin, especially in rigid pupils.
