Cryer elevator
Triangular-sectioned dental elevator with a sharp, laterally placed point, made in right/left pairs to engage the empty socket adjacent to the root fragment being removed.
How it is used
Used to remove retained roots or fractured root fragments, typically via the empty socket of an already-extracted adjacent tooth, applying wheel-and-axle leverage against adjacent bone or tooth.
Clinical tip
Generates more luxation force than a Warwick-James, but also carries a higher risk of mandibular or maxillary fracture if levered without adequate bony support.
