External lumbar drain
Thin catheter inserted into the lumbar subarachnoid space (unlike the already-catalogued ventricular EVD catheter, inserted into a brain ventricle), connected to an external drip chamber or a volumetric infusion pump for controlled continuous drainage.
How it is used
Management of CSF fistula (e.g. after transsphenoidal pituitary surgery, Chiari surgery, or laminectomy) and prophylactic CSF diversion in skull-base surgery.
